bimini top tracks

I finally got the bimini (gmitopdesign $300 sunbrella w/stainless fitting upgrade and stainless tracks).

Now, a question about the tracks. I was under the wrong assumption that I could use the tracks to adjust the bimini (shade) position. The tracks have one stop and my understanding of the directions is that they are installed in the most forward position with the stop and the stop is released to lay the top more aft for storage.

Are there different types of tracks or different stops used? I am wondering about adding two more stops before I install the tracks so I can stop both the rear and forward slide.

Re: bimini top tracks

Are you referring to the tracks that would mount on the surface of the gunwales (top side of the boat sides) allowing you to slide the entire top forward or back by 24-48"?

I have a '70 Evinrude Explorer that I am restoring. The helm is far forward. When I install my new 8'x72" bimini top, I want to be able to slide it forward to cover the helm which leaves the rear seats exposed, or slide it back to cover the rear seats leaving the front seats exposed (sort like the old chaufferred Duesenbergs:D). Also, I can slide it all the way back and then fold it down so that it falls just to the rear of the rear seats.

Can you clarify?

Re: bimini top tracks

On the tracks I got, the sliding mount for the bimini does not have a lock. The manufacturer supplied one sliding lock for each side such that the instructions direct you to install the bimini in hte most forward position on the track, the lock to the rear of the bimini mount. You have the bimini up ONLY in the most forward position and then can lay it flat in any more rear position for storage.

I am turning some of the spare parts they provided into two additional locks so that I can have two locks on each track and will be able to lock the erected bimini in any position along the track.

I hope to move the boat out of the garage this weekend to install the track. I have the boat on blocks in the garage and had been working on the bottom. I don't have enough clearance to verify the position of the bimini prior to installing the tracks.

The locks have to be put on the tracks prior to fastening the tracks to the boat. I am going to bed the screws in 4200.
