Hey folks. In need of some advice. Desperately want a Bimini top for this summer. I'm 6'4" tall so would like something not too low but also like to cast a line off the back of boat.

Amazon has some decent priced Bimini tops. 6ft. long 46" high. The alternates are 8ft. long but 54" high. My deck is 26" to gunwale. Which translates to either a 6ft long with total height of 72" total height or 8ft. with 80" high. My total height is 76". See picture attached.

Either i'm 4" headroom short standing up with a 6ft long or 4" of head space but an 8ft. long on a 17ft. boat. Any suggestions.?

Go Carver. You won’t be disappointed.

I would recommend 2” above your height. I am 6’3” and that is what I did.

Check out used boats that run the great lakes. You'd be surprised just how tall some of the Bimini tops extend....with full canvas and plastic windows.

Adding a bimini to my 18' was probably one of the best additions I have made and there is no question everyone appreciates having it. When deciding on a similar question I decided to go with the height which ensured I could walk under it without slouching and have to say that after a few years that was definitely the right decision. It may look sportier sitting lower to the boat but practicality wins out on this one and if you had no other choice I would go for the 8ft long one even though there should be other options out there which meet both of your requirements.
