My boat came with a bimini top that attaches to the windshied but it's to low and makes you feel trapped.
I've seen the ones that you can stand under on other boats and see them for sale. They look like they need to be screwed in to the boat which is fine.
My question is can they be set up and folded so it sits on the back area behind the seats.
If they are a PITA to break down or are bulky and in the way when broken down I don't think I'd get one.
Any advice is welcomed

They are easy to set up and down in my opinion, never had an issue. Foldvthem back and slip on a boot and it all stays nice and neat. Boot takes longer to install than folding the bimini !! Now, with that said....if you do a lot of standing, then they are great, but if you sit a lot, the tall tops dont give much shade. I have shortened all my tops, due to lack of shade. When your sitting and the top is 3-4 feet above your head, the sun comes in under and top doesnt block much. When I had my CC, I did a lot more standing, so the taller top worked well !! All depends on your normal position when boating

To be clear, a top that attaches to the windshield is normally know as a Navy Top. Bimini tops are freestanding.

Measure the boats width at the helm and measure out how long you want it and look online for a kit. The length you buy is not as important as the width, as several lengths will still fit.

Sunbrella fabric is the best but pricy. I bought a cheap replacement bimini fabric on Amazon for $80. It just zipped on. Very convenient. We will see how long it lasts.
