I have a '77 18' SS. I saw a good deal on CL for a bimini top which I will eventually need. I'm still hunting for a good motor. I realized that I don't know how to measure for the proper sized top for my boat. As far as width, do I need to measure outside edge to outside edge or center to center or what. The tops I was looking at on CL were 76" and 80". I bet one of these would work for me but I'm not sure which. Can you help a brother out? Thanks

snap to windshield or sunbrella style?

I have a 79 SS18, came with brand new sunbrella $359 dollars. The fasteners are mounted on the farest edges of each gunwale top. Make sure the item for sale is being measured by the hardware, not the width of the canvass. Most SS 18 widths(beam) are 81" at the widest point, which is about the mounting areas for the clips...............80" should work.

Also make sure to check the height, some suppliers don't list this and sell you a 36" tall one, which means you can't stand under it. I purchased one for a buddy with a 16SS and we got the one that was 54" tall gives him lots of headroom for walking around and he is 6'4".

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. It's a sunbrella that I'm looking at. Seems brand new, asking 125. Best deal I've seen on one so far. Thanks again.

No, just a guy on Craigslist. He's got the 80" and a 76". I think the 80 will work for me. I figure even if the canvas isn't that good, I can recover it and still be ahead of the game. I think the canvas is good though.

So, you're happy with the quality?

I have only opened the box to determine that yep, there's a bimini in there :p For the price though, I'm sure I'll be pleased with it. I bought a boat cover from them at the same time and I'm thrilled with that.

Well, I bought that Sunbrella for $100. It was in really good shape and the guy threw in the mounting hardware from the boat it came off of. He's going with a tee top on that one. Interesting fellow, bought and sold 54 boats last year. Does it for a living. Basically he flips them. Cherry picks the good deals, cleans them up and sells them. No motor work, no fiberglass work, details them and turns them. It was good to pick his brain for a minute. Hell of a job.
Now that I have my top, I can sit in my boat in the yard and not get sunburned. Still need that motor. Baby steps.
