Titles signed and dated.

BOS is ok but not necessary when forms below are used. Nothing has to be notorized.

Forms needed signed and dated:

PWD 143 (boat)
PWD 144 (motor, if outboard)
PWD 504 (pencil tracing or picture of VIN) both boat and motor, This can be done by buyer only...

PWD 314 if boat and/or motor come from a non title state. Can be done by buyer.

Some states have just "registration" for boat and/or motor. That paper work will be necessary in those cases........

One other thing....

Signed and dated BOS (and title if tha State issued one) with tag number and VIN for tha trailer. Registration papers would help also. DMV not as "pushy" as Parks n Wildlife.......

I had signed titles but no bill of sale. I went to the tpwd office today and they would not transfer the title without the bill of sale. Had to round up the previous owner and get him to sign it.

They didn't do anything with the trailer as that's dmv.

Did ya have tha 143 for tha boat and 144 for tha motor signed and dated?

Yeah, Texas can be a PIA when it comes ta dealin' with Parks & Wildlife. They are a stickler for their "paperwork"............and can be a lot of it.

I never have had a bill of sale. As stated, TPWD quit requiring notarization and take you at your word. Course if you lie you will have free room and board for a while and won't get to use your boat. There is a place on the forms for the current owner to assign title to you, be it a person or a dealer.

With no title, almost impossible to get one registered. I haven't tried to register an out of state rig so I don't know what the current requirements are for that but you can bet they will want some kind of paper work. A phone call to TPWD or visiting their www will get you the desired answers.

Since TPWD offices are few and far between, you can down load the forms off the www, fill them out, send them in and get your registration card and registration sticker to paste on the boat before or after the registration number. They tell you how to do it. Engine has no visible registration but you do need the certificate to sell it.

My current rig was bought used from an individual just as I said above. No problems.

On the trailer in my county, didn't need a BOS for that either. They aren't picky. If you have no model/SN they will just register it as a Shop Built.

Well then they must have different rules for different folks as she said she needed a bill of sale. I think it's harder to register a boat than it is a car now in Texas.

Strange. As long as I've had those forms never need tha BOS. But I'm on a first name greeting with TP&W in Ft. Worth :joyous:

Well the papers are in lieu of the bill of sale. I'm not really even sure what a bill of sale is as I told the the lady that i had a receipt the guy wrote me. Her reply was that it wouldn't work. She filled everything out for me and said to just fill in what she had highlighted. All the yellow highlighted stuff is what I needed to fill out and the pink was what the seller needed to fill out. She then gave me a second set of papers saying that if we filled anything out in the wrong way, you cant just scratch it out, you have to start over with a new document.

Thats sounds right. Those are tha 143 and 144 I mentioned. BOS is usually only needed when it comes from a non-title state along with tha 314 (affidavit of fact). Did she give ya tha 504 for tha pencil tracing of tha vin?
