For my bilge pump to run I have to have the manual switch on at the console and it never shuts off. Should this boat have an automatic bilge? I'm going to replace the pump. Any info would be great.

Re: bilge question on 97 nitro

Hi, yes you should have the bilge automatic as well. The way I have always done this is have the bilge pump wired automatically with a manual over ride by switch on the consol. This means that the pump can run either all on its own when water trips the automatic switch, or with your input aswell through the manual switch. Hope this is some use to you, if you are stuck with any wiring give me a shout and I will be happy to help.

Re: bilge question on 97 nitro

I'm sure if I get to it I'm going to replace it with an auto pump which I'm assuming they may be a 3 wire setup so that it can run through the float or direct with the switch. I'm a Mechanical Engineering Technologist and have been in Heating and air for 10 years so designing the circuit would be easy. I'm just curious as to how they are from the factory. If you want to tell me how the curcuit is set up normally I'd appreciate it. From the way you make it sound you direct wire from the battery to the float switch input on the pump and you have a second input(or positive line) to the bypass which will make the pump irregardless of the water level. Thanks for the info. I love this site and people that help like yourself.
