I just replaced the Rule 1500 on my Sportctraft which was identical to the one that was in there when I bought it. I never had a need before to mess with the automatic part but now I need to because I keep the boat in a well. Let me start with the switch at the helm it only has an on and off not third position. When I hooked up the wiring by color code as soon as I hooked up the brown/white wires the pump came on and stayed on no matter what position the helm switch was in. I can only get the pump to go on and off with helm switch by hooking up the brown/white wire from the pump to the brown wire from the switch. The brown wire from the pump does not do anything no matter what hot wire I touch it too. I am lost here and looking for any help I can get!

Thanks in advance,
Brian in MI

It's working like its supose too............The brn/wht wire is manual on and the brn is auto(the internal float turns it on when water lifts it).

Run the brn/wht wire to your dash switch, run the brn wire direct to 12V (your battery) and blk to ground.

When in doubt, check the manu's installation manual.

Thanks I just wired it as you suggested. Manual works I guess the auto test will occur next time I get water in bilge!

Well as it turns out the auto is not working. It is the pump not the wiring. I never did hear it kick on for a sec like my front rule does. Had enough water in rear of boat today but never kicked on. Had to run in manual.

Is the float switch in a position where you can reach and manually lift it up and down ?? If so you can test the auto mode without water....

Shows how old I am......mine always had float switches....what will they think of next??
Hey don't be in a hurry! The replacement pump is bad too will not kick on as I bench tested it in a bucket of water. Only clicks and impeller does not turn!
