Bilge Pump Sump

Hello,
I just cut out the rotted transom on my 1981 19' Glastron Bow Rider boat and unfortunately, I had to cut out the old bilge pump and sump (not sure what it's called) . My question is, is it necessary that I install/build another sump for the bilge pump or can I just install a bilge pump in the bottom of the boat without the containment?

I've actually never see one installed in a sump unless it was for a shower drain. No reason you can't place it right in the bilge. Most are set up that way.

Thank you. That's what I was thinking as well. I think it should be fine. The sump was in really bad shape or I would have tried to save it. Thanks for the response!
