Hi folks, first post so hopefully I did it right. I have an 87 Sea Sprite SS175BR which I recently purchased and I am having an issue with the bilge pump replacement. Pump cartridge is bad and I have removed it for replacement, but although I can read the name Attwood on the cartridge, I find no real matches to the style and can read no more of the model. I really don't want to change base unless I have to.

My previous boat had a bad bilge pump and I had to just buy a new unit and put it in, no cartridges available for it anymore(I couldn't find one anyway). They're not difficult to replace....

Not difficult at all if you have twelve foot long arms and three hands :cold:

Check for power to it,seen switches go bad,but it is good to upgrade just for peace of mind. Pump cheap. Engine parts costly!

Welcome to IBOATS.

When I click on your attachment it does not bring up a picture. Maybe try again and we'll see what you're talking about.

Sorry folks, the attachment seemed to work last night. I will try to send it again when I get back home. Basically this is an Attwood cartridge which is off white in color and resembles a bell. The tabs for attachment extend up from the base rather than down from the motor.
In case I actually have to replace the base, I don't see how to do it without pulling the motor. The boat is small with a 3.0 so, as you know, there is not much room in there.

Looks...OLD. Why wouldn't you just replace the whole pump? They're not that expensive.

Those pumps are made in two pieces like that so you can take it apart to clean it if it gets plugged up, you can't buy just the upper part of the pump.
If Atwood makes the same basic style pump today, you may take the top part of the pump off and attach it to the old base. But you will still have to buy the whole pump.

Price had almost nothing to do with the question, really. The issue is lack of space to access the base for replacement, and no knowledge of how to properly install it.
