What is the proper method of mounting the pump in the bilge? The old pump was screwed down with sealant around the screws.I'm thinking of sealing those holes with 5200 and trying some epoxy for the new one..
Any suggestions?

if the epoxy doesn't eat up the base. i don't particularly like the idea, as i've had to remove the old bases, people have glue in. i wish someone would come up with a circle clamp, that could mount on the transom, and just clamp around the pump. even a stainless hose clamp, screwed to the transom. like the strap on the fire extinguisher.

I have had three boats with epoxied on bilge pumps. I agree it's hokey, but it works. I have replaced two as well and frankly you just leave the old base there if you've gone with a different model . . . They do this with $100K+ boats over here . . .

Come to think of it now, I did have one mounted by a dealer that he screwed to the transom. I never like it, because it didn't get as much water out as a glued base one. When you think about it, you can't get 'em any lower than with the epoxy . . .

yup Gary, you could 5200 the old mounting holes.

If I get you correctly..yea drill your new mounting holes..dribble some epoxy down holes..re-pilot your holes then bed screws with 5200.

Re: Bilge pump mounting

Thanks guys, good ideas!8) I was thinking of leaving the old 500 gph in and adding the 1100.I have a new thru hull fitting and the larger hose coming.I could plumb it out the other side of the boat. I was thinking the 500 was way too small for a 19 ft boat..
With the location of the 500 i have to have about 10 gallons of water in the bilge before it even comes on.
The new pump i will put lower and farther to the stern..

Think about using a ss screw in the midst of a ss clamp, horizontal mount.

Thats a good idea Coors..
I think i have a couple of those clamps around.
I will have to remove the rear seats and engine housing, ect. and get in there. It may be one of those deals where you can get only one arm back there... routing the hose should be interesting...:%
