Bilge pump for Aristocraft 19

It looks like there is a place to put a bilge pump on the right side of the motor (165hp Mercruiser). If a pump was there it would get lower than the current one. The one that came with the boat is just sitting behind the motor, has no float. Is there one that will fasten in the existing hole?

hum mj. which side would that be? port or starboard. right side could be either or depending on if yer looking fore or aft of the engine...;)

yep, that's the way mine was.

just glued to the inner liner. in between the drain hole and the aft hole coming from the ski locker.

got pics. i don't understand what existing hole...

here was my answer as to where to remount my bilge pump.
001-4.jpg

the area i wanted to mount it at. paper towel in drain hole.

generally where i wanted the pump to be at...

my engineering. this is a coozy cup holder bent so the pump fits into it. then the mount handle of the holder was bolted to a piece of angle iron. the angle iron is bolted with one bolt to the inner gimble housing assy.. remove this bolt and remove whole assy.

007-1.jpg

the pump sits just above the liner. almost as low as possible. not glued to the liner which if ya would want to service the pump would make it near impossible to remove the pump. the one bolt idea i had makes it so i can remove it for service.

obviously, mine is not a auto pump.
doubt it's what it came with from the oem too.
i've tried to find out what it was like from the oem to no avail. i've never seen how one was mounted from the oem.

good luck with how you do it.
what i did is on it's 2nd year now. maybe third. so far it seems to work. granted. i think i've only seen water being pumped out once since install. at least i know it works. i just don't ever seem to get much water in my bilge. so far i've not needed it to pump.

another pic of hole on starboard side of engine in front of starter. What's it for? Does a bilge pump go in here?

Ziggy, thanks for pics of your fine setup. my current pump is just sitting in that area. I really used it when my freeze plug in the head leaked, I just kept on cruising and pumping. Don't take on much now that new brass plugs are in, but did take on water when in a tight turn pulling an inflatable with teens on it. Guess I was a little too tight! I left the 19 while I sailed with a friend for a few hours and would feel better if I had one with an auto float.

ahhh, that hole. (edit.... on the starboard side......:D;))
that hole leads to the ski locker area. a big hole in the back, on the side of the ski locker. mine has the bilge blower hose installed into that hole.

i don't quite understand the routeing of the blower/vent system in a nineteen. but do believe this is likely what that hole is for...

i hear ya on the auto bilge pump idea. i really wanted to go that way. but being poor + having an operational pump on hand lead me to do what i did. i would have had to do further engineering to add a float switch. i sleep over night on board Lime Time. i'm waiting for the day i get woke up by getting wet from sinking and i don't know it.. hope that never happens...

further comment. interesting ya got that one screw in that hole. mine has exactly that same screw... it's just screwed into and through the blower hose... one screw is supposed to keep it in place...?????

Scott at Aristocraft confirmed that you are right and the blower hose goes there. I found a Rule 800 bilge pump that automatically checks every 2-3 minutes for water and if it's there pumps it out. Around $80. sounds like my next bilge pump. Anyone have experience with this pump?

Re: Bilge pump for Aristocraft 19

no experience with what yer proposing. but that 500 gph one in my pic is a rule. no idea how old it is as it came with the boat. had to be cleaned out real good after i first got it. since then, one more cleaning. still ticking. that was part of my idea when i came up with that basket thing. keeps it just off the liner also at the lowest point. less chance of it plugging up with leaves and other crud. + removable for service...

so how ya plan on mounting it? imho, the nineteen don't leave many options. there surely is a place that the oem put them at, but i've never seen one that i thought came out of the factory. and my speculation is they did come with one. my switch at the helm is most certainly what it came with. two of the same switches. one for light, one for blower or bilge pump.

let us know how it turns out for you...

Do you have the blower and pump on the same switch?

yes. not sure i'm using proper words. but their two pull switch. pull one click (detent) for blower. pull switch further out to second click (full out) is bilge pump.

two identical switches. one for blower/bilge pump. one for anchor light only, or full nav. lights..

fwiw, these must be common switches. i had the same switches in my '72 trisonic..
