Bilge pump failed on my boat and dog house filled up with water half way up motor,Checked oil has lots of water in it. {never started motor with watery oil}:I will change oil till all signs of water is out of it. Just need to know what else to check for? And I pulled spark plugs no sign of water there. Also wondered where is the point of entry for water to get in oil? Sorry if I dont respond back fast I work out of town and I will believing soon. 5.0 mercruiser 228

Alright - you seem to have a number of issues going on here. We'll need some other background information before we can help. First, why are you taking on that much water? Secondly, were you having any engine issues prior to taking on this much water- overheating perhaps? Did the water get high enough to enter through the dipstick tube? If not, there's no way it got in anywhere else unless the water was up over the carb.
I'm thinking a cracked exhaust manifold or a failed manifold gasket?

Thinking now- cracked exhaust manifold causing water intrusion into the engine as well as bilge.....?

Checked oil has lots of water in it.
Ayuh,... Change the motor oil,..
Check the trim pump oil for water, 'n pull the drive to drain the bellows...
Also the P/S pump if it went swimmin'...

You'll need a new Starter shortly, 'n possibly an Alternator...

Re: bilge pump failed water in oil what else to check for?

The water entered the boat due to lots of rain. Float on the bilge pump got jammed with a pack of fishing hooks. Not sure if the water got as high as the dip stick or carb. When I got to the boat it was half way up the motor. If it got into the carb will there be other damage to look for? I suck about 7 qts of water out of oil dip stick stem before i got to oil, then my pump broke on me. So today I am going back up to change oil till it looks good. Its still docked up at lake so I am guessing the season is over for me. Should get oil good and see if will start to get it on the trailer to get everything checked out uh? Was wanting to fish few more times but if water got in the bellows better check and have pull boat out.

Ayuh,... If there's even a chance the carb took on water, pull the sparkplugs, 'n try to turn it over,...
Bring a new starter with ya though..

If ya pumped the 7 qts. of water out, before the motor was turned, 'n oil was comin' out the pump,...
You've gotten most all the water out at this point, from the base anyways...

Well everything went good. Pulled spark plugs before i gave her a crank, no water, what a relief. Changed oil, and ps fluid, put spark plugs back in cranked her over started right up. Yippie. Change oil again.not much signs of water in oil second time. good enough to get it on the trailer. Will change oil again, pull drive and check things over next, and winterize. Thanks for the advice, helped set my mind at ease. O ya the stater wanted to stick when a first tried to start it , time for new one.
