Bilge pump cartridge? Good or bad idea?

Im in the market for a new bilge pump(s), but didnt know what the difference was between a standard bilge pump and one with a cartridge.

I have a 1990 Stratos 290 SF, and the two that I have in there are probably from 1990, and Im pretty sure they are both burnt up.

What are your preferences?

The cartridge type allows you to twist the top (in some way) and remove the motor. This is great to clean out gunk that may get stuck in there. I pop mine off every once in a while just to check them and be sure there clean.
