I just got an older pontoon trailer with the small wheels and tires on it.
its not a scissor typewith the tires in the middle. Is it possible to switch out to bigger tires and wheels like a more modern trailer? Also how hard would it be switch to dual axle instead of a single axle. I have to replace the fenders either way, even if I leave it as is.
thanks

Ayuh,... Hard to say, you don't state whether there's room for bigger tires or not...
Ditto on goin' to a tandem axles...

Got any pictures,..??

Re: bigger wheels/tires on trailer

Adding bigger wheels and tires does nothing to add capacity if the axles are already at the limit. You've given us absolutely nothing to go on. What is the total weight of your rig? What is the load capacity or GVWR of the trailer (check the capacity plate). What is the current tire size (complete info from the sidewall of the tire). Unless you are a welder, you cannot convert a single axle trailer to a tandem. In most cases if you have to have the work done by someone else you would be better off selling what you have and buying what you want.

Re: bigger wheels/tires on trailer

I m not wanting to add capacity, just peace of mind on long trips, one location is about 4-5 hours each way away, the other would be 8-9 hours each way.

A smaller tire would spin many more times than a bigger tire, and one of those trips is more miles than many people put in their trailers in a year.

When I get home Ill check the specs.
