Big transom anode bolt question

I am putting on a new Large, flat, anode (Divers Dream) on the transom of a Sea Ray 300 WE (twin inboards)
Having no experience with these, I thought I had better ask.
What material am I supposed to be using for the thru hull bolts, nuts, washers? Stainless, bronze? TYhe reason I ask about bronze, is that I think that what may have been used priviously. Any special techniques I should use to bolt these on. Will they need to be changed while in the water, eventually? So should I bolt, seal, the thru hull bolts and then bolt the anode to them?
Thanks,

Re: Big transom anode bolt question

My anoide experience consists of ones that go on the outdrive but I do recall the big plates on Inboard boats. I would check with whatever local place you are going to purchase them through because I believe they offer different types for different waters and if it doesnt come with new bolts, I'm sure you could re-use the old ones. Being the 3rd owner my boat's anodes were forgotten for a wile and the drive looks poor:( I changed one of mine mid season since it was so beat up after a few months, I was told it could be due to electric charge? Keep an eye on it and I'm sure it's possible to do in the water with the right equipment/ skill. They can deteriorate fast!

Re: Big transom anode bolt question

I purchased an anode from BoatZincs. They have a help line and were very helpful. My anode is aluminum (recommended by the Boatzincs guy) and it came with a SS bolt for attachment. I don't see how you would go wrong with SS.

If you are attaching the anode to fiberglass, you must ground it to the electrical system. If thru bolting the anode, a ground wire to the engine block is appropriate.

I always liked zinc anodes for salt water. I know aluminum anodes are being pushed, however, I would stick with the zinc.

Re: Big transom anode bolt question

If you haven't changed it yet, what you'll probably find are 2 thru-the-transom brass or SS bolts with a bonding wire attached. On the outside of the transom should be a nut(s) with split washers which keeps the bolt retained when the anode has been removed. Slide the anode on and 2 more nuts with flat washer retain the anode on the bolts.

Basically what I'm saying is that when you remove the old anode, the blots shouldn't have to be disturbed.
