Re: big foot or not??????
RMOE, I just put on a 9.9 bigfoot on my 23" rinker. as a trolling and emergency motor. A couple of reasons Why I went to the big foot has opposed to a traditional 9.9.

1. the bigger gear case
2. High Thrust
3. bigger ventilation plate. with the motor offset of centerline it will be rocking more and have much more occurance to suck air on a roller.
4.Did I mention the bigger gear case
5. gear ratio 2.42:1 vs. 2.08:1

And The following points by Mercury settled it for me.

"POWER TO MOVE
Pontoons call for something more. Thats because from the bottom up theyre designed for one purpose and one purpose alone: to carry heavy loads. And BigFoot is the only outboard in the world specifically designed to give pontoons the added push they need."

"MORE CONTROL
The hull of a traditional boat slices through the water, allowing the engine to work in fairly undisturbed water. But the twin tubes of a pontoon force turbulent water toward the engine. So BigFoots larger gear case and propeller offer better handling, maneuverability and performance."

"BETTER HANDLING
On a traditional outboard, the propeller is too close to the surface. And the small antiventilation plate allows air to be drawn into the prop. But BigFoots taller gear case means the prop sits lower in the water. And the oversized antiventilation plate keeps air away from the prop. The result is greater thrust and maneuverability."

Thats why I went Bigfoot, I was sold on Honda or Mercury and Mercury; Mercury won!

Oh yeah, I also went with the 25" shaft because I have to mount it on my boats swim deck.
