It's been a while since i've posted, I finally stopped working on boats and started fishing on them! My brother and I frequently go out of Port Isabel, TX and head for the rigs hunting Cobia, Dorado, and big sharks. This weekend we finally found the big Cobia, battled them all day on light tackle and came home with 3 in the boat.

Nice fish! How long do they hang around the rigs? I figured they would not be anything at the nearshore rigs right now. We have some within a couple of miles of the shore of Corpus, I might head out there next time the seas are right if there is a chance of catching cobia, sharks, etc....

Junior bagged this one last June next to a rig that was 22 miles straight out of Freeport. It was rough as heck that day. Almost didn't get it into the boat - on the side of the fish is a bite mark where a shark almost beat us to it.

VERY nice. Thats some good eating right there.

The biggest one I ever caught was offshore out of Matagorda weighing in at 68 pounds. It was the largest ling brought into the Mermaid Tournament that year. A proud moment for me.:)

You gotta love them Ling!! We don't have oil rigs or any large permanent structures off our coast, but what we do have periodically are whale sharks. Each one comes with about a dozen hungry cobia lurking all over them. My buddy and I encountered one this past Fall off Clearwater. His was 22# and mine was 32#. Lots of fun on the light tackle we were using......:)

Nice job guys. My son had a 6' cobia hooked and within 20' of our boat when two big bull sharks took it apart, unsure of the weight but it was the biggest one I've ever seen here.

That must have been exciting..6' cobia are 80# + fish! I have had those bulls show up at Boca Grande with a tarpon on and the results weren't very nice...

Betcha wanted to take a 12/0 out and hook the rest of the fish on...then see who would win that fight!

Hey Rick, yeah we were guessing in that area for the weight. We got it off a wreck off Sanibel this summer along with some big Permit and Groupers, pretty stellar day.
