Hi there, just bought a 99 Lund Pro_v from my uncle....only 30 hours on the unit. Has a 99 BF90A tiller on it (Honda)
My question is....do the wine a touch in reverse...it is a noticeable difference than forwards....is this normal, or has sitting dried out some bearing....did not mention, boat only ran once a year in last two years just to run it....Also am changing this unit to remote steering...your comments are appreciated....great board here....thanks! Re: BF90A wines in reverse

Hey SaskLund, I have a 75 tiller with 50 hrs and it does the same thing. I was supposed to change the lower unit oil at 20hrs(I know I'am bad), anyway I was going to try synthetic in the lower unit when I do change. I have had great luck with it on my other motors. Of course I'am not going to know if this helps untill spring.....I'll keep you posted.

Re: BF90A wines in reverse

Thanks S.Mac. ! That is interesting. I talked to a dealer and he said it is normal, although he did not hear mine. I am having it converted to remote steering there, so hopefully they will run it to check the linkage and will be able to tell me. My buddies 115 Yamaha and my 20 hp yamaha do not make near this much of a noise.....weird???? Also met up with a guy with a 50 Honda and he said his was not as loud and noticable. Maybe more horse more wine???
Thanks again for the reply!

Re: BF90A wines in reverse

When you put it in reverse is the noise constant or do you notice it getting louder as you give it power. Could it be a harmonic noise in the boat? Is the noise affected by trim angle? Does the noise change pitch or intensity after running for a length of time, as the gear oil heats up? I have never noticed any noticeable noise or pitch change, other than harmonics, in any of the Honda's I've rigged. To bad these motors are so quiet, makes us notice other noise's in our boats. Keep us posted on what you find out...

I actually only had the unit out two times, and now it got two cold so it is at the dealer getting winterized.....cannot recall if it did what you are asking...the darn motor is so quiet...maybe that is why I am hearing so much....will let you know this spring what the scoop is.....I know that is long away and I cannot wait for it to come too!!
