BF90 sputtering & stalling

Problem: My BF90 is sputtering at idle, emitting strong gas scent with exhaust, and stalls when I try to accelerate.

If I let it idle long enough (5 - 10 min) in the drive way or putter around near the dock it will eventually smooth out and and allow me to rev and accelerate. It only happened once about a year ago, but now has done it the last 3 times of use (approx 3-4 weeks apart).

This only occurs when 1st starting the motor, and once it goes away it runs fine the rest of the day. Also, when the problem goes away, so does the strong smell of gas in the exhaust.

Is this the choke or float sticking, or an air lock?

Re: BF90 sputtering & stalling

Marina mechanic said it was the float needle sticking, but when it acted up again the other day I noticed the choke toggle switch appeared to be stuck part way in the on position. After giving it a couple of taps, it cleared up.

Will give the switch a little oil and test it out again in a few days.
