What is reccomended / proper /siggested running of this engine ? My last engine was a 2 stroke and ran WOT all the time. when I think of running my car engine (4 stroke) WOT all the time I think i would wear it out much faster. how long is it recomended to run a 4 stroke WOT ?

It runs smooth at WOT but I know it is working hard being that it is a 4 stroke. Will this shorten its life ?
Thanks

Kid

If you ran Any car at full throttle, it wouldn't last five minutes. Marine engines are engineered to take it. Hours on end, day after day after day. They test them that way. Run them at full throttle 24/7 until something breaks. Then redesign the broken part to hold-up. It's usually much harder on outboards to Baby them.

Well, I somewhat disagree with the idea of a car only lasting 5 minutes at WOT - unless maybe we're talking Ford or Chevy. But the fact is, out boards do not last anywhere near as long - in terms of hours - as a car engine, simply becasue they DO work so much harder.
Why not get a bigger engine so you dont have to go WOT all the time?

The way I was told was to prop your boat where it can achieve its recommended Wot rpm range with a normal load.If for instance you rpm range is (5000-5500) and you prop it so that the highest rpm you can achieve is 3500 then you will be lugging the motor and be putting a lot of undue stress on the parts. On the other hand if you prop it to achieve over your rpm range(6000)then the motor will be over revving and suffer a short life expectancy.
