I'm going through a water pump rebuild and I needed to replace the lower housing. The new lower housing/body did not come with new oil seals for around the shaft. Is there a way to remove them out of the old housing without damaging them, and reinstalling them into the new body? The shop is about an hour and a half away and it's the weekend as well. I'm trying to get this thing going.

Ive tried many times and have not had a lot of success. The problem is that in that plastic housing the NEW seals dont even fit that tight so when you put used seals in they are even less tight and really have a hard time sealing up. So i guess it depends on how committed you are to getting out onto the water this weekend. You could epoxy the old seals into the new housing but you take the risk of ruining the new housing if everything doesnt set up right. I would also highly recommend a pressure test when everything is done to double check your work, those lower units were never the tightest with the water.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting new seals and pressing them in with a c clamp. I don't really know if that was the right way to do it but it seemed to work. I'm not really familiar with this "boating season" term. Haha
