I am preparing to convert my used BF50 from a tiller to remote. I have all the parts to convert my steering but it seems the removal of the tiller and converting to the remote controls is a little more difficult. My dealer is suggesting that it is not quite as simple as removing the tiller throttle controls and hooking up the Morse teleflex cables.I have the Honda control box already.I am not worried about the choke connection as I am seated aft at my steering station and can easily access the manual choke. Isn't there a kit and why does it have to appear as complicated as my dealer is suggesting? He says that Honda want to discourage people from converting from tiller to remote. That seems a little far fetched to me. Can any body offer me any assistance on this one.

Re: BF50 tiller conversion

Markham,
I had the same problem when I first looked into converting my 40hp from tiller to remote. There is no kit and the dealer pretty much said it would be cheaper to trade in on a newer remote than it would be to purchase all of the parts separately.

Its sad that Honda sells a kit to convert from Remote to Tiller, but not one to go the other way.

Nav

Re: BF50 tiller conversion

I have done several of these and it is not that hard to do. Just locating the parts is the hardest. I have, had, several parts where we had to do the opposite, left over. Find an older dealer that had to do the same as I and they should fix you up a "kit" if they have done this before...

Hope this helps
