BF225 Alarm Issue

I have a BF225 that has an alarm that keeps going off at idle. If accelerated at all it will not go off. Also when I turn the battery switch on something clicks a couple times very rapidly and sounds to me like it is the coils but I can not be 100% sure of that. With the motor idling it takes about 2 or 3 minutes and the alarm is going off. Even when you cut the key off the alarm is still sounding. I have tried a new key switch and main harness. Also have changed the engine harness and main relay. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I believe the owner's manual describes every alarm sequence the motor should produce. If you have something else, I believe I'd consult a qualified mechanic before nickel and diming stuff like harnesses ... ;)

Re: BF225 Alarm Issue

I actually crossed paths with a honda rep one day at a dealership and he said that the only three things that he thought would give me this problem were a computer, a main relay, or the engine harness. He said that you really cant tested either one easily so to start with the cheapest being the relay and go from there. But needless to say you see where that got me so...

Depending on serial number range, there is a service bulletin and recall for that main relay so you might be able to get the part and labor for free. Check with your dealer.

I have already purchased and tried a main relay and did not resolve the issue....

Re: BF225 Alarm Issue

what year is your motor? the early ones suffered from water in the idle exhaust ports which killed an O2 sensor which made the alarm sound at idle. its covered under SB#56.

If you can find a service manual there is a $20 plug that you connect to the service port and the alarm will sound a series of beeps that will point you to the sensor with the issue. Swapping out parts like the Honda rep told you is only good for their pocket.
