BF15 fuel problem

I've got a 1998 Honda 15hp, fourstroke that keeps dying under power. If I squeeze the primer ball every 10 seconds or so it seems to run fine. I was going to change the fuel filter first and see if that works, but I really don't have anywhere to try the motor before I go to Baja next month. What if its the fuel pump? Any way to check that? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: BF15 fuel problem

Checking the fuel pump is easy, Kent.

Pump up the fuel line. Then disconnect the fuel pump output line from the carb(s) and stick it in a bottle. With the spark plugs disconnected or even out, spin her over. If you get spurts into the bottle, the pump is okay. If you don't, check out other possible causes before you condemn the fuel pump.

Other possible causes of your symptoms: Plugged or restricted vent or pickup on the tank, bad primer pump, air leaks in fuel lines or connectors.

Good luck. :)
