Hi Gang - I clunked a rock last year at idle speed and it stopped the motor. Fired up and ran fine.

When I changed LU oil over the winter, I found some water. Thinking that the upper seals had gone bad, I replaced them along with my normal impeller update.

Now, 100 hours later, I find that there is still water in there. I'm thinking that I might have trashed the lower (prop) seals when I hit that rock.

I've never changed those particular seals, and the manual has some info suggesting "special tools" and whatnot.

it seems like it might be simpler though - can someone walk me through the process in this thread?

Thanks, paxfish (bf130 - 7 seasons, 850 hours)

need more info.
have you done a pressure test? it will give you a better idea where the leak is at. drain oil then apply 5 psi air and spray down with soapy water. then look and listen for leak.
honda used two gear cases for a limited time merc gearcases have internal screen honda has a external screen over water inlet.
you could rig up a home made puller and a socket makes a great seal driver but the job is much quicker and better for your knuckles if you get the tools and a service manual with updates.
and ask your local honda dealer for a copy of
service bullen #24 water in gearcase
bf130la/xa bzbe-1000001-1102290
bf130lca/xca bzbh-1000001-1199999
it deals with the upper portion of gearcase that has a history of failing in older model 130's.

You will never know ,for sure ,where this thing is leaking until you pressure/vac test it.It could be as simple as the nylon washers around the plugs.Who knows? There are updates for the upper seals that you may be eligible for but you will need to see the dealer about that to recieve warranty relief. There are 8 places this gearcase can leak.
