Hello everyone, I am new to this Forum, and am looking for some technincal advice. I replaced a head gasket on my port engine this past winter and after the job was done I test ran the engine only to find it would not accelerate past 2500 rpms. I found the timing and balancing shafts to be off quite a bit, so I reset the pulleys to the correct marks and reinstalled the belts and reset my valves. I again took the boat for a spin, this time it had the acceleration it was lacking, but now I have a terrible vibration mostly at wide open throttle. My buddy who worked on Honda outboards took the gearcase apart and we found broken and missing teeth, gearcase is totally destroyed, so I put another one on it, brand new from Honda, took the boat out tonight and the same thing, vibration over 4500 rpms and even some noticable at idle. My question is with the timing being off, could I have bent a balancing shaft? Where should I look next, I am getting frustrated. Thanks for the help.
