BF100 Honda Timing?

My timing belt slipped off the flywheel when I caught a red rag under it while turning it over. I couldn’t find any timing marks and thought I replaced it correctly. When I used the motor this weekend it took quite a while to start and it would spit back out of the carb. When it finally started it didn’t have much top end power or speed.

Will this engine run one tooth off?

Where are the timing marks?

Thanks Harry

No, I don't have a manual. Do not know Points or CDI. How do I tell? Do I have to pull the rewind to see the marks? Thanks red.
Harry

Re: BF100 Honda Timing?

I found the marks on the flywheel. There is an F and a T. Which one do I use? On the cam pulley there is a 1 and an eagle. I am looking at the engine lying on its side with the starter on. This isn’t the best angle to view the marks. It seems the eagle lines up best.
What is right and what is wrong?

Thanks
Harry

Look under the rubber disk covering the cam pulley for points or pulser coil. Can you rig up a stand to mount the motor upright?

Re: BF100 Honda Timing?

Thanks red,

I got to a good thread on these motors and figured out how to time it and where the points are. It was a tooth out and I cleaned the points. I haven’t tried to start it yet but I will tomorrow. I will get it on the boat and start it in a 30 gal. drum.

How do you check and replace, if needed, the oil pressure light bulb?
It is not working. It seems to have oil pressure (no rattling or loss of power etc.)

The kill switch fell out and I have the rubber cover and a plastic and brass pin. Is there a spring that is supposed to be in there also?

Thanks again
Harry

Re: BF100 Honda Timing?

Congratulations on the timing. The oil pressure switch(sending unit) is ground& the charging coil is the hot; the lens unscrews to access the bulb on the older models.. I haven't had a kill switch apart and the manual doesn't show a disassembly, but I would assume some kind of spring and keeper..
