I don't like to let gas set for more than a couple of months. If it's going to be any longer I'll add a product called Stabile (there are others) to the fuel and run the engine for a little while to get it into the carb(s). I do this for winter storage as well (lawn mover, weed trimmer, chain saws, motorcycle) and have never had any problems with varnish or gum.<br /><br />Bruce
