i have a 99 bf 130 that the temp light goes on with the warning buzzer and shuts down after about 2 min of idling in gear. sits and idles at the dock with no problem. if i leave sit a minute and restart the problem is gone. this all happens after a cold start.

So upon restart you're okay for the remainder of the day?

The 99 had issues with cracked heads but this almost sounds like an ECM issue. Have a tech check the codes.

Have your tech test both the temp sensor and for codes stored in the ECM. If you had a mechanical issue, I would suspect that it would not go away after restart. If you would rather do the work yourself, the Clymer manual explains how to test the sensor and has the part number for the code checker - available from Honda.
