i was wondering if anybody has had any sucess porting and polishing there head to try to squeeze a little more power out of there 130 or maybe some domed pistons for more compression

Re: BF-130 head porting

beaware that as you modify that head and increase compression you will have to modify the amount of fuel delivered, to lean and exhaust valves then intake valves start dying.
thats the hardest part of modifying an FI motor, its difficult to reprogram the fuel curve.
then it will be on to larger intake trakes and throttle bodies then on to exhaust sytem mods and ignition system upgrades to burn the extra fuel at higher compression/combustion temps and pressures. its all good until ya find the weak spots :) :) . I am quite sure Crane cams can assist with a custom cam grind and valve spring selection. they used to help out in the past with one off grinds.

Re: BF-130 head porting

the cpu should be able to compensate for some of the changes i would think just so long as they were not to extream.
I will try to contact crane and see what they can come up with

Re: BF-130 head porting

not really.
its a mass air density type system not a mass air flow. any changes done to the mechanical side wont be compensated for.anything you do to add air will require doing something to add fuel. the RPM limit is going to grab you so extra RPM is out. so anything you do to add air the CPU wont recognize. its a draw back to EFI. and with no market share I doubt we will see much hot rod parts.

Re: BF-130 head porting

am i correct in assuming that the BF 130 shares many of the same parts as hondas 1.8 liter non v-tec that they put in the accord i wonder if the cams would be interchangable i contacted crane but i still havent heard back yet

Re: BF-130 head porting

from what I understand it does, however I dont know how much interchageability there is. it will still respond well to stuff like port matching and exhaust pocket polishing as well as some other tricks long used in the hot rod game.
little things like swirl rails welded in the intake tracks and all sorts of funny stuff. but if you start adding much air the CPU wont realize it other than the map sensor reading may not be calibrated to any change in valve overlap induced intake pressure changes. biggest choke point on a four stroke outboard is the same as a two stroke. its the exhaust is rather restrictive in spots, most notably the casting in the block.

Re: BF-130 head porting

An observation - the BF 130 is the same motor as the BF 115. So I would suspect that the 130 already has been 'tricked' to get the extra 15 hourses out of the 115. Wouldn't tricking it more push the internals over the edge? Also, I thought that the BF 130/115 was the same as the Accord 2.3L 4cyl?

Re: BF-130 head porting

your correct its the 2.4 not the 1.8 must have had a brain fart but i believe that the 115 is a detuned 130 not that other way around and im not really conserned about the internals of the engine but the lower unit is a little on the small side i think havent seen too many broken ones at the shop but then again the people who do break them usually hit somthing

still thinking about having some porting done and changing cams if possible

keep in mind the only reason im considering this is because iv got a second parts motor pulled the head off it looks pretty good im gonna clean it up today still has some salt and gasket stuck to it ill know for sure what kind of shape its in

too bad the serial # dosnt match the block recall
