My wife saw something interesting on her way home from work yesterday. There was an SUV in the left lane ahead of her. She saw lots of "advertising" on the wrap for Florida with pix of sunny beaches, palm trees and so forth. Just like any other car or truck advertising AC Repair or Real Estate services, etc.

BUT! Buried deep on the driver's door, in the pretty pictures and phone numbers and such was the logo for the County Sheriff! And as she stopped next to the SUV at the light, she saw that the driver was indeed a Deputy!

SNEAKY!!

I am glad we don't have unmarked cars and SUV's here, our court said it was deceptive traffic enforcement, we have to be able to identify the law enforcement vehicles so we can change what we are doing. Also no traffic cams on stop lights either..

We had speed enforcement cameras here until about 10 years ago. The voters soundly voted them out of existance. Now only Scottsdale has them.

On the other hand, many communties have red light runner cameras, which I agree with.

You NEVER proceed immediately on a green light here.

Some departments here are using Ghost wraps that only show up at night when hit with light..............

The department I work with has a full size unmarked Chev extended cab 4x4 1500 and we call it the ghost ship - no one suspects it at all

So wrap your car to look like a cop car leaving it just off enough so a court would toss out any charges.Mayberry comes to mind.:joyous:

Veering slightly off topic, but related to Rude's post: I had an old Ford (one of my first cars) that had a funny glitch that happened. Whatever went wrong, my hazard lights didn't flash in unison. They effectively "wig-wagged." So, in the event that I tossed on the hazards, I got alternating lights on the front and back of the car.

You can clear a few things out of your way when you pop those buggers on :D

Never figured out what was wrong, 'cuz I liked it enough to just let it be ;)

could not tell it was a cop until you noticed the blacked out spot light.

The State of AZ has gone to "ghosted" graphics on their vehicles. You can only see the graphics at night.

Their cars used to always be white, now they are any color.

They run: Explorers, Tahoes, Chargers, a few 5.0 Mustangs. And, to mix it up; various crime siezure vehicles as "spotters".

I hate it when I go to WA, the police there run all kinds of different vehicles and you never know who is a cop! Many of the state and county vehicles are seized crime vehicles that they don't do anything to except put a small set of plues in the grill. Last time I was there, I got pulled over for a burned out light and the State Patrol guy was driving a Ford Ranger with a Canopy on it, darn think looked like a guys construction work truck!

A friend in the ÄZ Department told me there have been some issues with the "generic" vehicles. People are wary of the vehicle not actually being a Police Vehicle. Especially women drivers. I can see their point.

One for the "glad I'm not a kid anymore" file...

Yup, the competition between drivers and enforcement was much more "sporting" in the sixties. Even the unmarked cars were obvious- they were the only ones on the road with zero trim and simple hubcaps instead of full wheel covers.

It's just no fun anymore...
