Just got around to installing a new T-stat kit on my 88' fourwinns 160 freedom (OMC 3.0 liter).. The impeller grenaded a month or so ago and since putting in a new impeller kit weird things have been happening.. The boat starts out the day running HOT (water temp) then suddenly cools down to below normal temp and stays that way for the day... I didn't want to pull the T-stat w/o a new gasket.. Parts finally arrived.. Sure enough, lot's of rubber pieces in the housing and chunks stuck inbetween the coils of the T-stat spring. I figure the rubber pieces were making the T-stat stick closed until it got so hot in there the rubber pieces became more pliable and allowed the T-stat to open.. Same pieces then kept T-stat from closing?.... Have yet to test it on the lake though.. Only possible day to boat this week is Thurs. and thunderstorms are forecast all day.. Just figures!..
