I'm no pro--good explanations and illustrations are most important to me. I'm not planning any rebuilds, just basic maintainance / maybe carb rebuiilds, etc.

Thanks for any recommendations!

I'd go for the Clymer. Seloc sucks! Just my opinion! Factory would be best, of course.

Hey Dank,
I personally prefer Seloc but many on the board prefer Clymer. It's strictly a matter of choice.
Backlash

Rick is right, Factory manuals are best since they
ONLY cover that exact motor. aftermarkets usually
cover many years and models and can be a little
confusing. my seloc covers all merc. 6 cyl from 65-91.
check ebay or your local service guy.

The Seloc manual is confusing. It shows picture of products from the 60's (2-stroke oil in a can!!) and it really doesn't cover my motor very well,so you have to read between the lines sometimes. I'd get a factory manual to cut down on the confusion with the old products and photos.

Dutch

I ended up with both. For some stuff I find the Seloc more easily understood, while other repairs are easier with the Clymers.

In the end, being able to read both gives a noice like me a good comfort level when attempting something for the first time.

Obviously if you can track down a factory manual specific to your engine that would be the best option.

Cheers.
