Best way to check ex manifolds?

I want to check the ex manifolds on my 88 Four Winns with an OMC 4.3. It has the OMC style one piece manifold. I've been told to take them off and look inside, but I wondered if they can be hooked up to a water source and pressure tested?
If I wind up buying new, what is the best primer/paint to use on the new ones??

You are just ahead of me with this question. I'll be checking my identical engine soon.

As far as testing goes, I would think any air compressor could would show you if a passage is blocked or leaking. If you don't have one, every garage or marine shop does. Just point a nozzle into each passage and watch (and feel)the result.

I've seen discussions on other boards recommending using the two-part (manifold and riser) replacement parts as less expensive and more practical.

To properly pressure test your manifolds, you Should use a jig to block off All the water passages, then pressurize to 15, or 20lbs with Air.. then submerge them in water,+ look for bubbles....
Anything Less, Is a Shot In The Dark....
