I am working on converting my 1979 Mercruiser 260 to the Sniper EFI. I'd also like to upgrade the ignition system from the original points to something better. I'd love to do the Hyperspark and have the sniper control everything, but I'm not sure that is coast guard approved. Does anyone know for sure?

If not, what is the best possible system I can use that is USCG compliant?

Delco would be good, but the Holley Dizzy would be better, it connects to the Sniper and works with it

Reread post #2. It has the best option you can opt for. Easy to obtain Parts if it does crap out, unlike like the 3rd Party stuff.

If the points were badly worn/corroded, replacing them would restore HP, and improve Economy

Pertronix is a good option. I replaced my points in a hotrod with a module and added an Accel Super coil..... Gives a hotter spark. Some use Pertronix Flamethrower coils...
