Since heat is your enemy when it comes to braking with a trailer in tow, get the best quality pads available. The better pads may require slightly increased pedal pressure but they produce less brake dust, last longer, and resist fading better than the cheaper pads.

So apparently Napa, Autozone, Car Quest, Advance, Advantage and Parts Plus all sell worthless junk huh?

I'm not paying $129.00 for OEM brake pads.

I really was just interested in experience with Semi-metallic vs Ceramic vs PFC-Carbon-Metalic (whatever that is)?

Come on guys....give me a break!

I've had Ceramic pads on my F-150 for 3 years and am well pleased with them. This includes towing a pontoon boat 300 miles round trip every other week or so during the summer. That's my 2 pennys worth on it...

OEM.

NO aftermarket brake company does actual "on vehicle" testing. Look it up. Nor, do they meet FMVSS standards.

Well,...... I'm with BRG25,......

I run NAPA Gold labeled Pads,+ Shoes.........

Never had Any Issues with them............

1 thing to Remember,...... The Harder the Pads,... The Quicker the Rotors will Wear.......

This is on My F-250 that hauls a Trailer almost ALL the time,... As well as the rest of the Fleet that I maintain.......

I Rarely,... If Ever use OEM Parts......Unless that's the Only Alternative........ ;)

Re: Best type of Brake Pads for towing?

I would stay away from ceramic. I put them on a car and a truck last year. Both ended up having warped rotors in no time at all. My tire store recently explained that they won't install ceramic because they are to hard and cause more trouble than they are worth. I had semi-metalic before, they were better, but not good enough. The semi-metalic left black crud all over the wheels in no time. I've been using Raybestos brand in both cases. Maybe another brand like Bendix, etc. would be better. I'm thinking that OEM might be good, but expensive. However, my time and the cost of rotors may make more expensive pads acceptable.

I'm not putting ANYTHING on my vehicle that hasn't actualy been tested ON A VEHICLE.

It's amazing how we'll do anything to save a buck on the most important system on any vehicle. It baffles me.

OEM pads cost nowhere near $120.00.
