Thinking of adding brakes to a 2000lb single axle trailer that launches in salt water often. Any suggestions as to what style brake will last? Disks? Drum?

I got tired of dealing with drums so I went with discs. Started out with stainles unvented TieDowns and then went with steel Kodiaks. The Tiedowns were a big problem for me because the design isn't made for heavy loads. You might be able to get away with it though. I would still recomend the Kodiaks.

LOVE my Kodiak 10"SS Disc's 3 years and not a single issue.

They do tend to take a while to cool off...

Pretty much any SS disc system should be fine for that weight trailer. Myself, I don't worry about brakes until I get into the larger or heavier boats. I tossed the drums on my dual axle trailer that pulls my 20' boat and never bothered to install any brakes, I can't say that I miss them. The truck has no problem stopping the trailer and I don't have the worry about rusted up brakes.
I have one trailer with hydraulic surge discs and the only problem I have is the master cylinder sticking once in a while. I don't go far here, so I don't worry about having brakes on most trailers. It also depends on the size of your tow vehicle. I like the simplicity of not having to deal with brakes on the trailer.
