Where is a good place to find what the weight of the boat is? I have found a trailer to purchase but I can't find any info on what my boat might weigh. I thought I saw somewhere that it weighed 2500 lbs but have since read this might just be the weight of the hull and not include the motor or accessories.
I have a 1980 Bayliner Santiago Cuddy. Model 2250? With a Mercruiser 898 V-8. My Jeep 4x4 hitch states that it can tow a max of 6500 lbs. Before I go out and buy the trailer I would like to know what weight I am looking at before I add towing accesories to the jeep or just go out and buy another truck.

Thanks

www.nadaguides.com look up your boat as if you were going to buy/sell and they list the weights along with the values.

Length: 21'
Model Name/Description: 2250 SANTIAGO CUDDY
Boat Type: Stern Drive Power Boat
Hull Material: Fiberglass
Beam: 8'
Engine: 1
120 HP
Gasoline
Net Weight: 2,225

Now add your stuff and you have it close.

Re: Best place to find Boat Weight

Thanks for the tip Bob_VT. This lists the HP at 120, but the plate on the engine states 190 HP. I don't think this would change the overall weight though, would you agree? I plan on towing her empty, except for the average gear, life vests, ski's, anchor, general tools. I plan on running the fuel down to under 1/4 tank, somewhere around 10 gallons. So I am thinking she is going to total out somewhere around 4500 - 5000 lbs boat, trailer, and gear max. Well under the rating for the jeep.

Thanks again

T

Go get it weighed so you know for sure. Fuel and oil alone add a lot of weight, and yes, the bigger engine will weigh more.

6500 is an odd number for a hitch rating. You sure about that? Is that rating on the receiver or the ball/bar? And what is the tow rating for the vehicle itself, as equipped?

I would add about 300 lbs for the engine change the figure in your fuel and goods. It should be close.

The 6500 is on the hitch receiver and in the Manual. The Manual lists the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a class IV hitch, 4.7L V-8 and P225/75 R16 (Minimum) tires as rated to tow 6500 lbs. Manual states Up to 6500 lbs, GCWR 10,500 lbs, 30 ft maxiumn length, tonque weight 750 lbs. It recommends that I add a Transmission cooler, but I think I have one. There is a little radiator in front of the big one, but I have not yet traced the lines. I bought the vehicle used and don't have the orginal vehicle specs. It is already wired for trailer brakes and I found the wires for that, I will just have to buy an after market braking system. The Grand Cherokee is not a very big vehicle and I was surprised that it rated so high. But I don't intend to tow the boat more than a couple of times a year for maintenance, the rest of the time it stays in a slip. So I think I can forgo buying a new vehicle to tow with.

Re: Best place to find Boat Weight

Published boat weights can be way off. My boat weighs more than 1,000 lb over the "published weight" even after allowing for fuel, water, etc. To know how much it weighs, you must take it to a scale and have it weighed. There's no other way to know.
