Roundman, Where I fish a five pound bass is considered a trophy. We catch cats in the 15 to 20 pound range. I cant even think of nailing a 78 pound fish, what a thrill it must be to hook up with a fish that big. I have fished in the gulf a few times and got some great redfish action it was a blast.

I've caught some nice Reds ,too. I don,t live but 5 hrs. from the Gulf and my boss keeps a 31ft. boat at Panama City. We fish the King touraments. We really have agood time. Tuna & Jacks relly fight good ,too. We caught a 8 1/2 ft. sailfish a few years ago on a light Penn spinning reel. We chased him all over the Gulf. I live on Lake Sinclair, Ga. and I do mostly fresh water fishing. We have hybrids on our lake and they will tear your reels up for you.

Here in Massachusetts we fly fish and bait fish for Stripers 10-50lbs.plus which usually migrate from the Chesapeke Bay area in early May and migrate back south in October. Also blue fish 5-20lbs.arrive here in mid June and also stay till October.<br />We fish for codfish and haddock year round. The cod go from 5-70lbs averaging about 20lbs or so. On the commercial end we are allowed 400lbs.per day. Recreational fishing is allowed 10 fish per day over 23" per person.<br />Also we have a giant blue fin tuna season which starts the 1st of June till we reach a quota. These tuna can go over 1000lbs. with the average being around 500-600lbs.<br /><br />www.capeannfishingcharters.com<br /><br />The Unorthodox Flyfisher

We fish for stripers in Georgia. Our fish are stocked in the lakes. They can get pretty big. My largest striper was 28 lbs. We catch them mostley on live bait and bucktail jigs. We have a hopped up white bass called a hybrid that school. This time of year is when we really catch them. I sub contract for a company out of Boston called Ken's Food. Alot of the people that work for them are from the Boston area. They tell me stories about fly fishing for big stripers. The fishing season is ready to bust wide open down here.

Re: Best fishing

I have heard of fishing for stripers in lakes. Do they get much bigger then 28lbs. on the lakes?? They must do a job on the younger fish in the lake. I would think that they would clean out a lake eating the smolts; fry and the larger fish.<br />Around here in the ocean they are very attracted to anything chartreause in color.Bait fish here that they feed on is herring; mackeral; pogies; sand eels and baby bunker in the fall. They also eat lobsters and crabs.<br /><br /> :) You should try fly fishing for them. ;) :D <br />Up here we use #10 weight rods; sinking lines; intermediate and floating. I mostly use an Orvis depth charge sinking line that is suppose to sink to 40'<br />Have a Great Day :) <br /><br />The Unorthodox Flyfisher

Re: Best fishing

stripers go up to high 50's in lakes. they do well with good populations of 4-6" shad. they don't seem to bother the spotted & largemouth bass, since the stripers are always on the move...<br /><br />about every year, someone catches a 40lb, but mostly 6-12lbr's.

Re: Best fishing

Hey, is this a stripper thread? or do any other<br />kinds of fishing count. Just kidding.<br />I enjoy many different kinds of fish where I live.<br />To the west, 1 hr away is the Rocky Mountains. I<br />down rigg for Lake Trout. personal Best so far was<br />a 28 lb giant, they are very old when they get big.<br />The lake is over 460 ft deep and 5200 ft above<br />sea level. My fishing partner a few years ago took<br />a 38 lb Lake Trout while fishing from my boat one<br />early June morning that was approx 75 years old.<br />We released that fish. It was one of the largest<br />fish caught there on record over the last 100years<br />No ice fishing on this lake as its only open from<br />May to September.<br />Then their is excellent Pike fishing to the north<br />Just this past weekend one of my buddies caught a<br />20 lb Northern on our weekend fishing excursion.<br />As soon as the river opens up(becomes free of ice)<br />we will go after browns and rainbows, floating the<br />river is the best way to cover the water and makes<br />for a great way to play the fish without wearing<br />them out .blah blah blah

Snapper, of course.. The Mutton, Mangrove, and Yellow tail varieties of snapper and several different members of the Grouper family are the one's I'm after..<br /><br />The occasional Snook also peaks my interest and I won't pass up a trip for Dolphin/Dorado/Mahi-Mahi either...<br /><br />Then there's those high flying, Daddy leave the Bass tackle at home cause your Zebco 33's gonna smoke, monster Tarpon which as of yet are proving to be quite illusive to me.. I'll hook up with one, one of these days.. :D

Re: Best fishing

The Georgia striper record is 63 lbs. It was caught on the Oconee River below the dam of the lake I live on. They come up the river from the Atlantic Ocean. The state have hatcherys that they raise the stock fish in. We are noted for having large catfish, state record 67 lb. 8 oz. and the worlds largest bass. :p We have about 6 to 8 weeks that fishing is not real good. We don't have the bait kill off that yall have up north. That is why the stipers do so good. We have all the fish that yall have except ,muskee. North Ga. lakes are deep and cold year round, good for trout, walleye, sauger and northern pike. The southern lakes are shallow and warm, good for gators and snakes. Its like being in heaven everyday. :D :p
