Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and need your advice. I'm in the planning stages of buying my first pontoon boat so I can spend some fishing and lake time with my 6 yr. old Grandson this year...
I was first attracted to the Suncruiser SS-224 triple pontoon, but believe the Cypress Cay 220 Angler possibly offers more quality. Anyway, I appreciate any and all advice on the best boat for the money spent because I know almost nothing about pontoon boats..
Here's what we want:
A Triple pontoon with performance package (Lifting Strakes) to pull water toys and ski.
A 4-point fish boat that's comfortable and has a changing room for a porta pottie for the wife and Grandkids.
Power Steering/ tilt / trim and at least a 135 hp 4 stroke motor.
A good trailer.
Your advice is very much appreciated!!!! Thanks, Mike

I'm probably wrong, but I think that just about every toon manufacturer offers a fishing version.

So it would come down to how much do you want to spend.

I am also in the market for a new to me toon, but I haven't seen too many 20 foot models that came with a 3rd log. Although I guess, most would install one for the extra $$. And most performance packages came with larger models. But again, there could be exceptions.

One other thing to consider is where do you plan on boating. Most inland lakes, 20' should be okay. Large lakes, a 20 footer maybe too small. Same for coastal use.

Re: Best Fishing Tritoon???

Welcome to iboats.

I am fairly certain that Suncruiser is a part of Tracker, they make an okay boat but they are very low line entry level boats and most people move up after a short time.

I have heard of Cypress Cay but can't tell you anyhting about them.

One thing you will want to watch is whether or not the company you buy from is still in buisness.

when this mess started there were 52ish pontoon companies, that number is probably closer to 20-25 now.

I am really bias as I work for Bennington and I would really suggest you put us on your list.

Look at other boats first then go find a Bennington, I think you will be suprised at the difffence in build quality, design and construction, we really do make a better boat and we are still doing well as a company.

We do make a 20 tri fishing model and you can get chines on it, as OldPharte pointed out though a 20 is a smaller boat, it will certainly get you out on the water and you can tube and ski but maybe look into a 22, it is just enough bigger to make a difference.

And no I am not on the sales staff, I am in the weld shop.

As I said I am biased, btu I have also seen everyone elses boats, look at what is out there, don't be afraid to stick your head under the boat and see how they are held together then make your choice.

Good luck.

The Suncruiser is a Lowes built boat. looking at the site, i did not see a tritoon option, but the boat layout is great. i would want a 150 on it if you are planning to keep it long term. and use it for water sports also.
