So I was just laying here thinking that starting to get colder now due to the time of the year, but ill still be out on the lake fishing (bass/catfish 90% of time) and enjoying the time on the lake. Although I can only take so much of the freezing weather an water from the fish on my hands. So im looking into buying some gloves to where while fishing..

So my question is, What is the best gloves that will keep my hands warm an also be easily to remove to tie knots for the lures an all that good stuff..

Your opinions are welcome, as I have not really looked for any gloves, this is just for me to use as a reference in helping me decide..

-Thanks in advance..

Re: Best Fishing Gloves/Your Opinion..

I fish a LOT at night during the winter,,, so have some experience with good/bad gloves...

My favorite gloves are knitted gloves with a Thinsulate lining, frigging things keep my hands toasty warm when the cheap ol' ski gloves don't keep my hands warm at all, best of all they are not bulky. I picked up a set of Thinsulate mittens at BPS which keep my hands warm too, they have a flip-up cover on the fingers and thumb so you don't have to remove your gloves for intricate work. But,,, I still keep going back to the Thinsulate knitted gloves since the "feel right".

Oh yeah, it's best to have 2 pair of gloves. If you only bring 1 pair they will get wet immediately, but it you bring 2 pair, you will go the whole trip without getting your gloves wet...

1st off, I agree with everything Dan said. I'll use that style glove even during ice fishing. I will have a bulkier, heavier glove too, when ice fishing. Keep the extra set of gloves in the inside of your coat.

2nd, winter gloves in Alabama? ;0 If the temps are consistant in the 30's, will wear gloves while fishing. If 40's mostly not, maybe just one hand. I will put them on for the run down lake/river though.

Imported John S,

Hear, hear. Here in North Florida (some areas known as LA - Lower Alabama), it can get might chilly that is magnified by a run on the river. For the run, it's insulated overalls, gloves, and a knit hat - and sometimes a face mask. Then it all comes off to pile up on the deck while fishing. That's the price for fishing early morning, all day to late evening. Fun at all costs. :)

Ohhhh.....man!

What?, do you get more than 4 days a year with a frost??? Face mask? That's for down hill skiing when it is below zero F. Come on, suck it up! :D :D :D

Hey, just messing with ya.

Here I am in November, in the AM:

OK, I'll admit, I don't know what the windchill is of a 70mph bass boat in Northern FL is. ;)

Currently, I use Under Armour hunting gloves made for shooting. It's not bulky and fits snug to the hand and fingers, very important when casting baitcasters. I can tie a palomar knot without trouble while wearing them. It has good grip and dry quickly. It ain't the warmest but at least I can still feel my fingers and is the more useful then any "fishing" gloves I've ever found. Before this pair, I found and used a pair of women bicyling gloves. It has all the attributes of the UA shooting gloves. I took off down the road with them sitting on the back deck one day. Needless to say, I went awhile without a pair of gloves that I like.

Haha john well normally when I go fishing at night, after about 4 hours out is when my hands really start to get cold, an gets really annoying trying to tie knots when your hands are freezing.. You are right about the temp tho, it hardly ever goes below 40 it seems like here, but although the high for today was like 48 an of course anytime it hits 30 something all you hear about is "snow" so thats what ive heard for the past 3 days haha.. It rarely snows here, maybe once every 2 or 3 years it will barely snow an only stay on the ground till like 12-2.. I really love cold weather tho, but fishing an getting wet in the cold then having the wind never really makes it for a fun day/night..

Either way the gloves would be great for the wind/cold that we aint used to down here :D

Don't take up East Coast Striper fishing then. Many long nights jigging under the lights of the CBBT complex.

Upper 20's, low 30's with a stiff breeze off the Atlantic. Striper fishing at it's very best.

If I'm trolling and only have to deal with biats every now and then I'll use a pair of Thinsulate with the flip up fingers. When jigging (need your fingers all the time)I like these from LL Bean.

Ha ha John_s!

Your up at my latitude. I have fished when the line on a spinning reel has to be payed out by hand cuz it's 17 degrees F and it freezes on the reel before you can get your line back out! So we have run a little propane heater in the boat and been really glad for a closed bow and big heavy gloves.

After a while you just surrender and start releasing and handling your fish with your gloves still on... :)
