Sunday was in the 70's and my daughter was sick so I decided to take the boys, 5 and 7, fishing. It's the first time we've done just a "guys" trip so I loaded up a cooler with manly stuff including beef jerkey, cheese, root beer, and a couple adult ones. After launching the boat I sat in the back seat, tossed my 7 year old the keys and told him to find us a good fishing spot. He turned on the fish finder, fired up the boat and put us right on a hot bed of 4 inch sunnies. Best part is that he hasn't stopped rubbing in the fact that it was the most fish we caught all year.

Good work Sub. That's the best story I've heard in a while and your men will be reminding you of it on your death bed. I just hope they didn't run you out of the truck on the way home after all that jerky and cheese.

Good stuff! I'm going fishing with my old man Wednesday. But we're 29 and he'll be 63 tomorrow. :) Still enjoy time out at the lake together. I may let him drive, seeing how it was once his boat and he did buy me the new OB hanging off the back. :D

Had a great time with the littlest aspeck yesterday ... the leaves were turning color, Grandma, Mom, Dad, and littlest were all on board. Fun cruise, littlest had fun driving. Stopped to fish for a while ... couldn't keep the bluegill off the lures ... second cast caught a 4 inch bluegill on my 4 inch rattle trap! Littlest kept score of fish caught and since none of mine "counted" because she was watching the squirrels on shore, or watching her Grandma, or removing a fish, or ... she outfished me! :D

We all had a great time ... low 70's, partly sunny, beautiful day to be on the water!

It has been a great fall. So many people have already put away their boats that the lakes have been pretty peaceful. Sunday is supposed to be sunny and mid 60's so hopefully one last trip before I remodel the boat.

It amazes me how many people sell the boat or even think about it when they have kids. For me it was an excuse to get a bigger one. Also it's pretty easy to bribe at least one of them to go out, which makes it harder for my wife to say no.

My wife didn't like going when I only had the bass boat. But now that I got the center console, she is the one that says, "We haven't been to the lake in a while, when are we going?" And early spring and late fall when the leaves are changing and the lake is empty is the BEST time to enjoy it!

Gotta agree, Sub, kids and boats go together ... and they can learn responsibility, good decision-making skills, and just enjoy the outdoors and nature without a game console. I grew up on boats and that was how I wanted my kids to grow up also.

We only break out the WII when it's raining hard or snowing. I admit I did buy a fishing game for those instances. We grew up with a canoe we added a 3rd seat to before upgrading to a 14 ft. rowboat with a crappy 8.5hp. Nothing fancy but good memories.
