Best compromise for my 4.3...?

I have a 1998 caravelle 188 with 4.3 Volvo. At lake Powell, 4000' fully loaded with camping gear I can spin the 21p aluminum prop to 4600, but it takes way to long and shifting weight to the front to plane out. Once on plane it is fine. I have a 19p SS that I am going to try out in the spring. I am concerned about being under propped now.

Can the 19p SS be repitched to 20?
Should I look for a 19p 4 blade SS?

I can spin the 21p aluminum to just over 5k with a light load. The boat will be moved to Powell this spring. This means that the boat will be loaded up getting to and from camp, with much lighter day trips in between. I am looking for the best compromise between the two.

Thanks

Put yourself some nauticus trim tabs on and make a run. From there you decide if you want a prop...They will improve your balance and hole shot far better than any prop.

I too feel that your prop is fine.

I agree that some sort of "planing aid" would help solve your planing issue. My approach is a little different. 00440.jpg It's much less involved to install and will get you on plane in half the time. :)
