I am on a lake with a 60 hp limit and want to buy a motor for my 15 ft Whaler Sport. My highest priority is power for waterskiing (slolom). Reliability is the next priority. I am comparing Yamaha vs. Merc. And, 2 vs 4 stroke. How would you rank these 4 combinations? thanks

The Boston Whaler 15 is a great boat but it is not a ski boat. Sure it will pull a skier but don't get your hopes up to high. I would choose a Mercury but the best rule is to buy a brand that you can get serviced in your area.

obviously I like suzuki and the 55 I hve is extremely dependable, but having owned a whaler I can tell you that it is not a slalom boat and watch for the gel coat obsorbing water and making it heavy

Hi, CRB.

I, too, am a Suzi fan.

I have a DF70 on my BW Montauk and love it.

If I were powering a Sport 15, I would go for the Suzi DF50 EFI 4 stroke.

Second choice would be the Merc EFI 60 4 stroke.

No one else makes an EFI 4 stroke in this power range.

If I had to go 2 stroke it would be the Yammy.

:)

with "power" as my highest priority, do you think the 4 strokes can outrun the Yamaha 2 stroke?

In short-NO! The 2-stroke will outrun/pull the four.
