Is there a safe 12 volt dehumidifier for our cruiser left on the hook over winter here in the Southern Gulf Islands of BC, Canada? We have a new 370 watt solar system and 3 new AGM batteries. Two 6 volt Trojan 105's for the house, and one 12 volt Trojan for the engine. The Geordie lad is a 26 foot 1974 North Sea diesel cruiser.
We check on the boat 2-3 times per week.

All the cruisers I have been on use fans from shore power if they don't have AC. Never have I seen a house dehumidifier in a boat. Just thinking off the top of my head I'm thinking a dehumidifier would need more than 12V to operate. .

Dehumidifiers are air conditioners operating in reverse. They have a compressor that draws lots of power -- more than you want to even consider from a 12 volt source. And No -- an inverter is not the answer either. Power is power.

I got one of these that i leave in my boat when it is covered up at the house. During the summer i need to empty it every couple of days. Not sure it would work in your application, but maybe

When we ran a dehumidifier at the cottage on the lake it gave off enough heat to make that unbearable. Not 20 minutes after we shut it off and openned the windows and doorsto cool it off the place was damp again. Unless used in a cool damp basement I think they are a waste of energy. Like I thought 12V won't run one anyway.
