Does anyone have much experience with the Iron silk??
I've used it this year on some spinning outfits in 8lb and of course, these rigs are in and out of my boat every 4-5 days. I noticed a few weeks back that while tying a jig on the line would break when pulling the knot tight....at a very subtle pull..maybe a half-pound.
I keep one compartment in the front of my boat just for line and I dug this pakage out and tested what was left on the spool...it was very, very strong. I guess I'm saying I have found a very weak link in this line.
I tried to break the line as I was removing it from the reel and at around 2/3'ds of the spool capacity it started to break at a higher tension, so UV rays kill this stuff.....quick.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same or like experience.

I tried Iron Silk, Walleyehed. Didn't use it long before I discovered Power Pro. My problem with it was its abrasiveness on guides.

yup exposure to sun and abrasion against rocks and cheap guides kills line fast

Re: Berkely IronSilk.....

I wouldn't say I've used them all (Line brands) by any stretch, but I have maybe 50 rods at my reach most of the time and My trolling rods have fireline with Berkley Vanish for leaders...although I hear many people complain about how fireline frays, I have yet (in 7 years) found any issues with it myself, other than when I tried it for a year on several baitcasters and found it to be like a magnet to wood objects...it doesn't roll on around a tree like a good mono does..I use P-Line, Power-pro and Berkely big game on all baitcasters now. The mono/co-polymers gets changed twice a year and the Braids maybe every 2 years.
Just thought I would ask about the Ironsilk..I've never seen a line degrade so quickly.
JB, how long did you use the Ironsilk before noticing guide wear?
After reading your response, I looked over my guides on the 2 rods I had this on by running a Q-tip around/inside each guide..the nicks show fast with a Q-tip, and I replace my own guides when needed...I found no sign of wear, and I would say I used these rods atleast 2-4 times a week for maybe 2 months before noticing the line weakness.

I may have confused the Iron Silk with Fenwick's Iron Thread, Walleyehed.

It was the Iron Thread that I had. It grooved premium SiC guides.

I used it in the ten pound test. I had it break one time tieing a knot and lost a big fish on a nightime strike last week. As soon as the fish hit the line broke.

Its all in the garbage can now. I had better luck with the cheap stuff from wal-mart.

I did notice when I was taking it off my reels that you can give it a good pull in one spot and it wont break and move 4' down and give it the same pull and it breaks and the areas that the line breaks has a slight different color. I wrote the a e-mail still no reply.

I am very surprised that any kind of spectra line would grove Silicon carbide.

Interesting, I have been using the 14# Ironsilk in
Lime Green and in green and have had no issues at all.

LD, I re-spooled withe the "fresh" 8lb Ironsilk I still had in the box and it was extremely strong but only lasted about 1 month before I started having problems again...I also started taking the rods in at night and not allowing exposure to the sun as much as possible...I don't think I'll be using it anymore...
