Hi,all. Iv'e got an old trailer (76) that I just noticed one of the wheels looks to be at an angle(maybe 10%)bent up. The spindle is welded to the axle(round tube)and I was wondering if I could heat up the bent area(where weld is) and straighten it? My fear is that by weakening the tensil strength with the heat is I will have a problem down the road(major breakdown)All input is greatly appreiciated. PDS

Re: Bent spindle on trailer

The problem you have could be a bent axle in general, take a close look at the over all axle and see if it has a rainbow in it or is bent with a upside down one.If it is upside down you can hook a chain to the spindles on each end put a jack in the middle sitting on the chain and apply pressure to put the rainbow back in place. That should straiten out your problem and help tire wear as well.

If the trailer is decent and you want to fix it up, take a look at Fleet Farm. They have parts and complete axle assemblies at very reasonable prices.

Personaly, I wouldn't try to straighten it out.

Should be some other decent trailer shops or marinas in GBay that can get you any type of parts you need.

Re: Bent spindle on trailer

Thanks for your replys!I took a good look at it yesterday and the tube(axle)is straight. It is just bent right at where spindle is welded to axle. For all I know it might have been bent when I bought the boat/trailer about ten years ago. I guess if I want to fix it properly, I'll have to look for another axle. Thanks again. PDS
