Earlier today my brother was getting ready to back his boat on to his driveway and as soon as he hit the gas he found that his motor& boat was going right up the hood of a small car that came in behind him, the skeg was slightly bent to the driver side direction, so my question is #1. Will it affect how the boat rides #2. Can it be straightend or does the lower unit need to be replaced?

Re: Bent skeg

Carry it to your local prop shop & they can straighten it. Mine was bent by previous owners hitting a log & banged on it for a couple minutes... good as new!!!

:)

Seen plenty of bent skegs and broken ones too as I do some real close to the islands fishing, But they usually are an easy fix for the local prop shop. Mentioned to the owner one day just for fun that they should mark Sally Rock, Half Way Rock, And the Rock Pile only to name a few: He told me he gets 90% of his business from them rocks and lobster buoys too!

Re: Bent skeg

And hows this for stupidity? Last year I back the boat out of the driveway park it and load it. My wife comes home from getting ice and parks bhind me. When we're all set to leave there's a car parked in front of me (no problem) I back up a few feet and put the lower unit through the grill of the wifes car. Fortunately it just busted the fiberglass grill and I was lucky to find an exact match, color too at the local junk yard. If your gonna put a lower unit through a grill I guess it is best if its your own!!
