I got in a hurry last weekend and turned my merc key without it fully engauged. It's one of the older black merc controls. It has a nice 90deg bend in it now. Whats the best way to fix this? I assume the local hardware store doesn't have blanks like this.

Re: Bent Key

Local Merc dealer (if reputable) should make copies, but will be what I consider expensive. I'd try a local harware store first, then local locksmith. Get SEVERAL copies! Boat keys seem to have a way of disappearing! I have one on my keycahain, one in each glovebox of my vehicles, and one in our lakehouse due to $50 ignition switch replacement last yr (lost keys!) Keys are cheaper than that for sure!!!

Your key will have a number on it, like 126. The part number is -30431xxx (where xxx is the number on the key).

If the key is the new style that has a number like '1C' or '2F' then the following is what you need to order...

1A -894911
1B -894912
1C -894913
1D -894914
1E -894915
1F -894916
2A -894917
2B -894918
2C -894919
2D -8949110
2E -8949111
2F -8949112

Any Merc dealer can buy in the key you need, and it's not a lot (less then $3). I used www.mercruiserparts.com to look up the prices.
