I bent the jack for the trailer tongue. Anyone know of a way to straighten the tube.
I know someone will ask how it got bent. So might as well fess up. I was just going to move the trailer across the yard and did not flip the ball hitch.
As you would know murphy was standing by and the thing jumped off the ball and bent the tongue jack.
Just enough to prevent retracting.
Thanks,
Fitz.

Re: Bent Jack

Sorry to say this but haven't had any luck straighting a jack tube. The clamp bracket yes but tube no.

Re: Bent Jack

i bent mine too, about 1 wk after replacing the old one. stripped orig when i got stuck in the yard and had to rmv trailer from truck. it stripped the gears from the angle i think. i moved into a new place and was rolling the boat by hand when it took off down the yard and bent this one, but it only binds when almost fully retracted.

i've heard the only way is to use the vehicle to put pressure against it. like by having trailer on truck, letting wheel down and positioned so that when you backup, it tries to slightly rebend the shaft in the needed direction. you'd have to have a block or something to push it against. i'd probably use the edge of the concrete driveway, and add wedges of wood to get the angle corrected if its not perfectly aligned with the concrete :)
-hope this helps-

Re: Bent Jack

Depending on how big of a jack you need, I just found one Sunday at the Bass Pro Shop (some kind of spring sale) for $19.88. It was a 800 lb type with the wheel. -- I was pricing them at wal-mart for awhile before that for $30. Good Luck.

Re: Bent Jack

I have gotten the bind out of some jacks by banging them with a sledge hammer in the needed direction. Usually works if it is ot bent to bad.
